Here are some tips to remember about the christening service

If the christening is being held especially for you rather than as part of a main service, make sure you ask everybody to turn up at least 10 minutes before it’s due to begin. Just bare in mind there might be a different service on afterwards. Everyone will gather around the font, with the parents and godparents at the front. A service sheet will be handed out with the words the godparents need to say usually printed in bold. The whole christening should only take 20-30 minutes.

Remember that churches can be pretty cold, so make sure your baby is warmly dressed. It may also be wise to take a spare set of clothes in case of an accident.

Planning a 21st birthday party?

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

birthday party food Most of us have been a 21st birthday party at some point, whether an organiser or a guest. These celebrations are typically notable for their energetic dancefloors, special effect lighting, entertainment and a lively bar!

Complete Events are often approached by clients who want to host a 21st for their children, but might not have the confidence to do this in their own home due to the fears of their property being damaged.

Also, a family home does not usually offer the atmosphere of a night club or a style that they might want. We understand what is important for a successful party. Consequently it is crucially important that the available budget is spent wisely on those elements of the party where it will be most appreciated.

So for any party you will need to think about catering. With all that drinking it is crucial that the catering is thought of to avoid people getting too drunk on an empty stomach.

Mr Fingerfood offer some great party boxes:

“The entertainer”
10 items – $14.95 per guest
Minimum 30 guests- $448.50
Just add $14.95 per guest for extra guests

Questions to ask your Caterer

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

If you need a caterer of your wedding or even any event its essential that you find the right catering company which will cater for all your needs. They will need to provide the cuisine, great food presentation and the overall ambiance you want to set. We have made a guide for you for questions to ask any prospective caterer:

  1. Does your company specialise in a certain type of food? This can be important if you have anything specific in mind so that you get a caterer which has experience in that area. They should be able to provide you with sample menus to look over to help you make your selections.
  2. What’s your price range? Check if the food prices are itemized depending on the food you choose or is it an all-inclusive rate. Also, ask if the cost includes gratuity, taxes or other additional costs?
  3. Do you provide table linens, silverware, chairs, tableware, etc for the event? See if they provide those non-food items. If they don’t can they make the arrangements for rentals. If they provide them, ask to see them beforehand to ensure they are acceptable as they are.
  4. Who will be your main contact? Ask if the person you work with throughout the planning will be who will oversee meal service on the day of your event (this should be the case).
  5. Will you be required handle the table settings? Check if the catering company will set up the place settings and place name cards etc. or if you are in charge of doing this.
  6. Do you provide wait staff? Whatever the event, find out how many wait staff they recommend for an event of your size. Most reputable caterers will use their own wait staff even if the site has serving personnel available.
  7. Where will the food be provided? Is there on-site facilities or will the caterer need to make additional arrangements? Find out if there is an additional fee if the caterer is required to bring their own equipment.
  8. Do you have a valid license and proper insurance? A license ensures the catering company has met health department standards and has liability insurance which protects you in case of an accident. Ask if it includes a liquor license from the state if you plan on serving alcohol.
  9. Do you provide drinks? If you want drinks for your wedding contact ontapbeverage.com.au they will make certain every aspect of your event is covered from drinks on arrival to ensuring champagne glasses are filled for toasts and speeches. They are the only beverage wedding caterer recognised and accredited by the Australian Bridal Service who run Australia’s largest wedding exhibition and directory service!!!
  10. Can you arrange a tasting? If you get a good vibe from the caterer you are meeting with, schedule a tasting to sample their cuisine this will give you that extra confidence to look forward to your big day.

Checkout Mr Fingerfood for great finger food catering for your event. Ask them the questions and make your wedding a great success!!

Finally, good luck and best wishes for the future.

Melbourne versus Sydney

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

We are being told by Melbourne how much better they are at food than Sydney. How they are the only city in Australia to be considerered serious for food. How they are the ones who know coffee, who understand cafe culture, who wear black, who have the best pizza, the best inner city markets and also all three MasterChef judges come from Melbourne.

Sydney has always had to swallow the idea that Melbourne is the greater food city – and typically, it is hard to argue. They nailed pizza, tea, coffee, cheese, pasta, sourdough bread, vegetables, heirloom fruits and long before us here in Sydney.

We owe them more than inspiration, we owe them half our restaurant industry. The food scene in Sydney wouldn’t look the same if some of their best chefs and taste-makers hadn’t fled Melbourne for the bright lights of the big city of Sydney. No Tony Bilson, no Janni Kyritsis, no Damien Pignolet, no Maurice Terzini, no Luke Mangan, no Bill Granger. No me.

The Melbournisation of Sydney has been most evident in the past 10 years. We’ve made our restaurants feel like basements, turned the lights down to Euro-Melburnian dimness, lobbied the government to get small bar licences, and allowed our Italians to cook Tuscan and Ligurian instead of Leichhardtian.

But those days are over. It’s not all one-way any more. We’ve lent our Neil Perry and Guillaume Brahimi to their Crown Casino complex. We’ve given them our version of modern Thai, with Longrain Melbourne. We’ve even sent them our coffee, with Sydney’s Single Origin Coffee Roasters supplying Melbourne’s much-lauded Cumulus and Cutler & Co restaurants.

Now, we’re giving them a shake simply by being Sydney. We’ve got the fine dining, the accolades, the water views, the whole package. We have the best restaurants in Australia. In the much-publicised London-based annual S. Pellegrino World’s Fifty Best Restaurants 2010 awards, there were just two Australian restaurants in the top 50 – Tetsuya’s and Quay. That would be Tetsuya’s and Quay in Sydney. Sydney also scored nine of the highest possible awards (three stars) in the current Australian Gourmet Traveller Restaurant Awards. Melbourne scored only one.

So, OK, let the final arbiters of home-cooking excellence come from Melbourne. But don’t forget where MasterChef Australia is put together, packaged and promoted: Sydney. Sydney is where things happen.

We love you, Melbourne, but you are our past, not our future. We have Mark Best, Peter Gilmore, Martin Benn, Jonathan Bathelmess, Brent Savage, Adriano Zumbo – a whole new generation of chefs who don’t look to Melbourne for inspiration any more. They look to Sydney, reflecting our own produce, sunshine, identity and values. Sydney, your time starts now.
